Animal grazing and watering behavior changes as your pastures get larger which can affect weight gain, nutrient distribution, forage recovery, so on and so forth. Another reason the 1/4-mile reel is the most common is simply the size and weight. The average grazier is much more comfortable with the 10-11 lbs. setup on the 1/4-mile reel versus the 17-18 lbs. on 1/2-mile reels.
